Middle School Book Club

Academic Independence wants to help students navigate their summer reading as well as aid in developing the critical reading comprehension skills necessary to be successful in the upcoming school year as it relates to English Language Arts.  Therefore, we have developed a comprehensive weekly plan to walk through a book of your student’s choice as well as the required reading for each grade level.

The Summer Book Club will begin Tuesday, June 8th, and run through August 3rd…

In June, your student will choose one of the recommended books from the Haislin reading list provided by your school. Each week we will cover a different topic that will help your student better understand the novel and improve overall reading comprehension skills such as note-taking, plot diagramming, character development and theme.

In July, we will all read the grade level required novel as assigned by your school and walk through it together.  Each week, your student will be given an opportunity to do an assignment that your instructor will review appropriately and provide feedback.

The goal of the Summer Book Club is to keep your student engaged in the reading/writing process and help them increase his/her skills as it relates to ELA.
