Q: What is Academic Independence?

A:

Academic Independence is a tutoring and educational consulting firm founded by Lauren Price and Jennifer Verdugo that offers students the tools they need to achieve the independence they desire. We believe that every student can realize his or her academic potential, despite challenges or set backs. In order to see the most dramatic improvement, we focus on dynamic collaboration of student, school, parents, and tutors.

Q: What Services does Academic Independence provide?

Our services include subject-specific tutoring and self-regulated learning accountability tutoring. We understand each student is different and his or her needs will change. Therefore, we offer a variety of services and resources to help students at various points in their academic career. We also offer test prep courses or one-on-one tutoring in ACT, SAT, and ISEE. Study Groups are also offered occasionally depending on the subject and before finals!

Q:What systems does Academic Independence have in place to promote Self Regulated Learning?

A:

  • Academic Independence offers a digital program created by our founder, Lauren Price, designed to increase executive functioning and self-regulation skills. 

  • We also offer tutoring in self-regulated learning. The sessions will consist of planning, goal settings, monitoring and evaluating the end result in order to fine-tune the process and start again.

Q:Does Academic Independence have any suggestions for what my child should work on this summer? 

A:

  • Academic Independence will offer Summer and Back-to-School Courses for students in middle school, high school and those transitioning to college, please check out our offerings here!

Q:I am working with a tutor, but I need a new subject to be covered… what do I do? 

A:

​Feel free to call our office line at (832) 925-7478 or let your current tutor know, and they will contact management. 

Q:What is the proper way to cancel or change the time of my session?

A:

​Contact your tutor directly. Please remember to cancel within four hours to avoid being charged.

Q:What is the proper way to cancel a session? 

A:

  • Contact your tutor directly at least 4 hours in advance to avoid being charged. If you are trying to cancel a study group, you can call (832) 925-7478 or email info@academicindependence.com

Q:Who do I contact to update my credit card on file, or if I have any billing questions?

A:

  • Call the Academic Independence Office at (832) 925-7478.

Q:My tutor is going out of town- can I have a sub? 

A:

Of course! Your tutor will reach out and see who needs a sub and we will work together as a team to find you the best possible sub for your subject need. 

Q:What happens if I cancel three times with my tutor? 

A:

You will move to as needed and give up the designated time to work with your tutor. This is at the discretion of the tutor. 

Q:What does being “as needed” mean at Academic Independence?

A:

As needed means that you do not have a dedicated time to meet with your tutor and sessions will be subject to your tutor's availability. Your tutor will let you know if you go as needed on their schedule. You will still have access to Academic Independence’s study groups and other client benefits.
